Why This Event Hits Different

The Buffalo Chip has hosted the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for decades, and now it's the home base for a growing Jeep event that brings together everything that makes the Black Hills special. Trail terrain that changes every ten miles. A festival ground built for big crowds and big nights. And a Fourth of July setting that hits harder in Sturgis than almost anywhere else in the country.

Jeep Freedom leans into the patriotic angle without making it feel forced. Flag Raising Ceremony on opening night. The Independence Day parade in Belle Fourche on the 4th. Founders of Freedom Patch and Badge Presentation on Sunday morning. Between all that, you've got trail rides, obstacle course access, a full vendor show, live music every night at Bikini Beach, and campfire stories with local voices who know the history of the region.

If you want a Jeep event that feels different from the beach shows and the mountain jams, this is the one.

Black Hills Trail Rides

The trail terrain around Sturgis is some of the most underrated Jeep country in the country. Granite spires, ponderosa pine forests, mountain switchbacks, high-elevation views, and access to areas that most people only ever see from a car window at Mount Rushmore.

Jeep Freedom offers guided rides through the Black Hills, giving attendees access to trails that would be tough to find and safely navigate on your own. Whether you're a seasoned wheeler or you're bringing a stock rig, the trail leaders know what routes match what skill level. Bring recovery gear, air down before you hit the loose stuff, and prepare to make new friends on the trail.

The Poker Chip Trail

Here's the twist that sets Jeep Freedom apart. The Poker Chip Trail is a Black Hills-wide scavenger hunt. Collect all 10 chips across the region and earn your Challenge Coin. It's a reason to explore beyond the Buffalo Chip grounds, hit iconic Black Hills locations, and turn the whole weekend into a road trip inside a road trip.

Details on the Poker Chip Trail page.

Vendor Show and Obstacle Course

The vendor show opens Thursday July 2 at noon and runs through the weekend at the Buffalo Chip Crossroads. Food trucks starting at 11:30 AM. The obstacle course opens Thursday morning at 9 AM at the PowerSports complex and is included in registration.

The obstacle course is a real feature at this event, not an afterthought. Real terrain, real challenge, real bragging rights when you clean it.

Independence Day Weekend

Saturday July 4 is what makes Jeep Freedom stand alone.

Belle Fourche Independence Day Parade kicks off at 8 AM. Jeep Freedom rides in the parade with Jeep Concepts and Stellantis Jeeps. If you've ever wanted to roll your Jeep in a real small-town Independence Day parade in the middle of America, this is it. Belle Fourche happens to be the geographic center of the United States, which makes the whole thing hit even harder.

All American Cookout follows at 12:30 PM. Included with the Summit Experience and Meal Plan tiers.

Fireworks Show at 9:30 PM Saturday night. Viewing from Bikini Beach and The Hill. The Buffalo Chip does fireworks like nobody else, and the July 4 show at Jeep Freedom is the payoff.

Live Music at Bikini Beach

Every night at 8 PM, live music at Bikini Beach is included in registration.

  • Wednesday July 1: Brandon Jones (Kick-off night, Summit Experience)
  • Thursday July 2: Rick Monroe & The Hitmen
  • Friday July 3: The Wilt Brothers
  • Saturday July 4: Rick Monroe & The Hitmen (Fireworks night)

The Buffalo Chip's Bikini Beach is a venue that turns into something unlike anywhere else once the sun drops. Bring your camp chair, grab a drink, and settle in.

Win a 2026 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon

The headline giveaway. Jeep Freedom is running a raffle for a fully loaded, battle-ready 2026 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Registered attendees can enter, and the winner walks away with a brand new Gladiator to drive home.

Details and entry at the official giveaway page.

Off-Road Toolbox | Driver Education

Thursday morning from 8 AM to 2 PM, Jeep Freedom runs Off-Road Toolbox driver education sessions. Meetings and courses cover technique, recovery, and trail etiquette. If you're new to wheeling or you want to level up before hitting the guided trail rides, don't skip this.

Where to Stay

The Buffalo Chip has on-site camping directly at the venue, which is by far the most immersive option. If you want to be in the middle of it all, book a campsite.

If you'd rather have a hotel, Sturgis and the surrounding towns (Rapid City, Spearfish, Deadwood) have plenty of options. Book early. Independence Day weekend in the Black Hills fills up.

Getting to Sturgis

Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) is about 30 miles south of Sturgis. Denver is about 6 hours south. Minneapolis is about 9 hours east. Salt Lake City is about 8 hours west.

If you're driving, I-90 runs straight through Sturgis. The Black Hills approach from any direction is one of the best Jeep drives in the country. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Spearfish Canyon, and Devils Tower are all within a couple hours of the Buffalo Chip if you want to stack a real vacation on the front or back of the event.
